Juicy Basic Burgers

With the upheaval and uncertainty in our lives at this time, you look for something quick and easy to prepare that nourishes your soul as well as your body. Just cuz it’s quick and easy doesn’t mean it’s not absolutely delicious. This simple basic burger fills that need. There are just 6 ingredients in the mixture and you grill it in the oven under the broiler. Easy peasy, delish and fast, just what you’re looking for.

So gather your ingredients and let’s carry on.

Yup, yup, that’s the whole thing. Now I just want to give you a hint, don’t skip the oil – even if the beef has some fat in it, it adds to the luscious mouthfeel and makes a big difference. K. So place the chopped meat into a bowl with the egg and breadcrumbs.

And add the oil, granulated garlic and dried minced onion.

Now you can make smaller hamburgers out of this but I found it made 8 nice sized (not giant, normal sized) burgers. Form into patties and place on a pan for broiling. Now this little trick is important. Make a gentle depression in each burger. That is to say, don’t make a hole in each burger, in the middle make a small dent all the way from the center till a bit before the edge like so:

The purpose in doing this is that as the burgers cook they shrink and the depression helps to keep their shape. K, if your broiler needs a coupla minutes to preheat, then now\s the time to do so. Place your burgers under the broiler and grill them for 5-6 minutes, flip and grill about 5-6 minutes on the other side for medium done burgers. You want them more well done, add a minute or 2 on each side but don’t overdo or your will dry them out and that’s a shame. K. While they’re grilling, assemble your burger buns Awesome Burger Buns, condiments like ketchup, mustard, bbq sauce, mayo etc. as you like and maybe some lettuce, tomato and pickles Gillian’s 1 Hour Bread and Butter Pickles, and stack the bun with lettuce, tomato and pickles, the burger and slather your preferred condiments on top, covering with your top of the burger. Dive right in and devour.

Juicy Basic Burgers

1 kilo chopped meat/mince

1 teaspoon granulated garlic

1 teaspoon dried minced onion

1-2 tablespoons oil

1/2 cup breadcrumbs- not fine

1 egg

For garnish, burger buns, lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup, bbq sauce, mayo etc.

Directions:

Mix together the chopped meat, garlic, onion oil, breadcrumbs and the egg. Don’t overmix the mixture. Form 8 nice sized hamburgers and place in broiling pan. Make gentle depressions in center of hamburgers- not all the way to the edge and not too deep. Turn broiler to low broil. Broil 5-6 minutes on each side till medium. If you prefer them more well done, add an additional minute or two to each side. Serve on buns with lettuce, pickles, tomato and condiments.
